elow is a list of activities in which your child can practice their speech sounds. This list is a resource for you. Your child is not obligated to do every activity. Feel free to utilize the ones that appeal most to you and your child. Remember it’s not important how they practice, just that they practice (at least 5 to 10 minutes per day).
Help your child develop self-awareness by listening and encouraging good speech. If your child is not a reader, have them repeat the words, phrases, or sentences.
SOUNDS & WORDS
*Say your sound 20 times.
*Say 10 words, 10 times each
*Pick 5 words, roll a die, and say your word that many times
*Say your sound in syllables, 5 times each.
*Walk around your house and find 5 things that have your sound. Say that word 10 times each.
*Make a “Sound Bag” – label a paper bag with your sound and decorate. Place objects & pictures in it that have your sound.
Review every day what has been collect. Say the “tougher” one 3 x’s each.
*Find your speech sound or words on at least three different pages in a book. Say it 5 times.
*Choose five words from your favorite show/movie/DVD that has your sound. Say that word 10 times each.
*Make a Bingo game with your words. Play Bingo with a family member or friend.
*Play Checkers or use a Puzzle! Before each move or piece received say your sound or word 3 times.
*Choose 10 to 20 words. Make “flash cards” for each word. Put words you correctly produce the first time in one
pile, and any that require more than one try in a second pile. Compare the piles. Try to improve each practice.
PHRASES & SENTENCES
*Read 10 phrases or sentences, circle the words with your speech sound.
*List 10 nouns that have your sound. Pair that word with an action or describing word (i.e. ball roll, or slow snake).
Say that phrase 3 times.
*Write/Copy 3-5 sentences and circle the speech sounds.
*Think of 5 words that describe you best. Write a sentence for each one. Read the sentences out loud.
*Read a book. Find your sound in a sentence. Read that sentence 10 times.
*Choose 10 words that have your sound. Try to think of a word that rhymes with each one. Say the rhyme.
*Play Tic-Tac-Toe. Say a phrase or sentence that has your sound before each turn.
*Pick 5 phrases or sentences. Roll a die and say the phrases or sentences with your speech sound that many times.
*While driving in a car, identify as many items as you can see out the window with your sound. Use the sentence:
“I see a ___________ out my window.”
*Use the Computer! Type phrases or sentences, and bold, italicize, or underline the words that have your sound.
